Memento Mori 2, 11x14", 2024
About the Work:
A grinning alligator skull swallows a glass orb—its glowing center echoing a bloom, or perhaps a soul. Candle wax spills beside it like a melted clock, while a dark vase casts a shadow deeper than the background allows.
Memento Mori II continues my exploration of mortality and myth, set within the still life tradition but warped through a surrealist lens. The title, Latin for “Remember you must die,” is less a warning than a whispered reminder to pay attention. What are we holding in our jaws? What beauty burns out before we can grasp it?
This piece bridges humor and darkness, with a theatrical palette and symbolic tension that rewards close looking.
Collector's Note:
This piece is ready to hang or frame. It's ideal for collectors who enjoy narrative still lifes, symbolism, and a touch of the uncanny. Signed on the front. Varnished for protection.
Details:
11×14 inches
Oil on Canvas
