Katelin Schutt
Hi, I’m Katelin Schutt - I paint oil and watercolor works in my Spring Hill, Tennessee studio that bring depth, beauty, and emotional resonance into the spaces people live in every day.
I create work for people drawn to beauty with substance—art that looks and feels timeless, while carrying mystery and emotional depth. My paintings bring more meaning into a home and make a space feel more personal, powerful, and alive. Through the figure, movement, and atmospheric space, I create paintings that speak to transformation, freedom, and the power of becoming. If you are drawn to transformation, movement, and the sacredness of change, my work meets you there. If you’re curious to hear more, join my collector’s list here.
My practice is grounded in serious study and a deep commitment to craft. I studied figure drawing with Steve Huston, and my work has been shown in New Hampshire, California, and Tennessee. My paintings are held in collections in Tennessee, Florida, and Virginia and have been featured in Arts to Hearts Magazine Issue 12. My solo show at Pearview Gallery reflects the momentum and distinct body of work I have built.
My life and work are rooted in devotion: to my art, to my family, and to the things that ask us to pay closer attention. I grew up in Southwest Virginia as an only child, and much of my early drawing practice came from boredom, which I still consider one of the great gifts life has to offer. I have also been a musician, a baker, a farmer, and a teacher, and each role shaped the artist I am now. They taught me discipline, observation, sensitivity, and how to return to the work again and again.
I come from Appalachian people, and that inheritance lives in the way I see the world. I grew up foraging for morel mushrooms in the spring, a family tradition, and I return each year to my alma mater, Sewanee, to see the wildflowers blooming in Shakerag Hollow. That lifelong attention to fleeting beauty, seasonal change, and the sacredness of ordinary life deeply informs my paintings. It is why I return again and again to transformation—to what vanishes, what returns, and what changes us.
